To Elba Under Sail

In October several of took a lovely day trip on a 45 foot sailboat from Portiglioni to Elba. It was a perfect day. We left Montalcino at 8am and were under sail before 11. It was a perfect day for sailing, temperature in the mid-70's, a fresh breeze and good friends. We had lunch at a nice little restaurant in Porto Azzurro on Elba and then returned by to the mainland before dark.

One of our good friends in Montalcino, Andrea Giacetti used to be a captain and his good friend Tony runs sailing trips out of Marina Scarlino to destinations on the west coast of Italy. He can arrange day trips or week-long adventures. The port at Scarlino has a beautiful yacht club with shops and restaurants that was developed by the Ferragamo family. The family even operates a boat-building company there that manufacturers world-class sailing yachts.

Andrea and Tony, our captain and first mate enjoying a beautiful fall day on the Mediterranean Sea. They brought a gourmet lunch complete with plenty of Prosecco and red wine.

After we returned to port we drove to the nearby fishing town of Castiglione della Pescaia where we had an incredible dinner of fresh seafood at a local restaurant. We were home by midnight. A day, and an evening, for the memory books.

Villa Palazzetta can easily arrange just such a trip for you while you are staying at our Villa. Not something your average tourist gets to do!

This is called perfect timing. The sun set just as we got back to port. Next stop, a seafood dinner in Castiglione della Pescaia.
